A history of any kind of event, process or evolution is dealing with time. The visual presentation of a time line is a common method used in the methodology of history. To envision information is to work at the intersection of image, word, number, and art. Complex production processes, instructions, management/organization structures and other topics where multiple elements, time lines or data flow is involved, often require an explanation in visual form. Dealing with complex information related to time is a challenging problem for a designer. If we want to see the information in the context of time, we need to combine those two elements—facts and time flow together. This can give us information about the chronology and the content.

The timeline was created to present information about the advances of the automobile through time. The timeline starts off with the first steam-powered vehicle and ends with vehicles of the modern period. Inspiration for this timeline came from the design of the typography that is found on vehicles. The typeface used is Century Gothic because of the ease of readability and also the classic feel of it. The colors chosen were very simple primary colors. The red monotone used on the photographs was employed to tie all of the vehicles together, that were originally many varying colors.
